Our Mission
Commitment to Sustainability
At Trojan Lighting, our sustainability mission is to lead the lighting industry towards a future that is better for the planet. We are committed to integrating eco-friendly practices in every aspect of our business. Our approach focuses on the principles of the circular economy, carbon reduction, retrofitting, and the development of intelligent buildings.
We believe in designing products that not only meet but exceed the highest standards of energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. By prioritising the reuse and retrofitting of existing systems, we aim to extend the lifespan of our lighting solutions and our client’s infrastructure, reducing waste and conserving valuable resources.
Our dedication to carbon reduction drives us to innovate continuously, seeking new ways to minimise our carbon footprint. We are committed to providing intelligent lighting solutions that enhance energy efficiency, lower operational costs, and contribute to a greener planet.
Through these efforts, Trojan Lighting strives to create a brighter, more sustainable future, where intelligent buildings and eco-friendly practices are the norm, not the exception.
Our Sustainability Journey
Initiatives
At Trojan Lighting, we are dedicated to enhancing sustainability across all aspects of our operations. Our initiatives are designed to reduce environmental impact and promote eco-friendly practices. Here’s how we are leading the way in sustainable lighting solutions:
Sustainable Product Development
Our partnership with Tridonic focuses on developing sustainable LED light sources and control gear that comply with the EU Single Lighting Regulations (SLR). This collaboration underscores our commitment to sustainability through:
- Extended Lifespan of Products: Our LED Boards and Drivers have impressive lifespans of 72,000 and 100,000 hours, respectively. This durability reduces the need for frequent replacements, conserving resources and minimizing waste.
- Retrofitting and Reuse: We use branded Tridonic components that are backward compatible, facilitating easy replacements and ensuring compliance with EU SLR. This approach supports our goal of reducing environmental impact by extending the life of our products.
- Design for a Circular Economy: The EU SLR encourages design practices that prioritize reliability, upgradeability, recyclability, and ease of dismantling. By adopting these principles, we contribute to a circular economy and extend the expected lifetime of our luminaires.
Plastic-Free Packaging
To reduce our environmental footprint, we have introduced plastic-free packaging, packaging tape and docket envelopes for our entire product range. By switching to paper bags and paper docket envelopes, we are minimising plastic waste and supporting a healthier planet. Introducing paper-based packaging tape has removed 30km of plastic per year from our processes.
Responsible Waste Management
We are members of the Recolight WEEE compliance scheme, reaffirming our dedication to responsible waste management. This membership ensures that our practices adhere to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations, promoting the collection and recycling of waste lighting equipment. By preventing harmful materials from ending up in landfills, we contribute to a more sustainable and circular economy. Additionally, our ongoing involvement with Recolight helps us stay compliant with evolving environmental standards.
Operational Improvements
90% of our HQ and satellite office’s energy was produced by on-site solar in June and July (which is also used to charge our EV fleet) and 90% of our fleet is an EV.
Sustainability In Action
Projects
At Trojan Lighting, we pride ourselves on our successful implementation of LED lighting, retrofitting and, alongside our partners, advanced control systems across various high-profile projects. Our efforts have significantly reduced carbon footprints and operational costs for our clients including Queensgate Car Parks, Channel 4, St. Cats, Liverpool One and Bluewater.
Through these projects, Trojan Lighting has consistently delivered impressive carbon and cost savings. Our focus on LED lighting, retrofitting, and intelligent control systems has enabled our clients to achieve:
- Significant Reductions in Energy Consumption: Our LED solutions consume less power, leading to lower energy bills and reduced environmental impact.
- Enhanced Operational Efficiency: Advanced control systems optimize lighting usage, ensuring that energy is used only when necessary.
- Reduced Maintenance Costs: LED lighting has a longer lifespan and requires less maintenance compared to traditional lighting, resulting in lower operational expenses.
- Substantial Carbon Footprint Reduction: By cutting down on energy usage, our projects contribute to the overall reduction of carbon emissions, supporting our clients’ sustainability goals.
To translate this impact into numbers, on a recent project at the Queensgate Shopping Centre Car Park in Peterborough, the following metrics were calculated:
