Role Overview
The Lighting Designer is responsible for overseeing all lighting design, CAD, and survey activities across the business. The role ensures that designs are accurate, compliant, and aligned with both client requirements and commercial objectives.
Acting as a bridge between sales, engineering, and clients, the Lighting Designer supports project delivery from initial survey through to final design. The role combines technical expertise with coordination and client-facing responsibility.
Working closely with internal teams, the Lighting Designer plays a key role in maintaining design quality, improving processes, and supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Management
- Manage the full design process from initial brief through to final delivery
- Ensure designs meet client requirements, deadlines, and quality standards
- Oversee design workload and prioritisation across projects
2. Survey Coordination
- Plan and carry out site surveys to gather accurate project data
- Ensure all required information is captured to support design work
- Maintain consistency and accuracy in survey outputs
3. Lighting Design
- Develop lighting designs aligned with specifications and standards
- Balance performance, compliance, and commercial considerations
- Ensure designs are practical and deliverable
4. CAD & Technical Documentation
- Produce and oversee detailed CAD drawings and layouts
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, clear, and complete
- Maintain standards across plans, elevations, and technical details
5. Client & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with sales teams to support project development
- Engage with clients, consultants, and contractors
- Present and explain design solutions clearly
6. Quality Assurance
- Review and approve designs to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Implement quality control processes across all design outputs
- Identify and resolve design issues early in the process
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate project records, revisions, and communications
- Track design progress and provide updates where required
- Ensure documentation supports project delivery and handover
Person Specification
Essential
- Strong background in lighting design and CAD
- Experience with lighting design software (e.g. Dialux or similar)
- Experience managing design projects or workflows
- Good understanding of lighting standards and regulations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly
Desirable
- Experience working with consultants, contractors, or architects
- Leadership experience or mentoring capability
- Understanding of commercial project delivery
