GAP – Covent Garden

Global brand, GAP, have just relaunched in the UK with a new flagship store in Covent Garden. Working alongside the store design team, we delivered the full lighting scheme, control strategy and luminaire supply for the new space.

The brief focused on creating a bright, modern retail environment where merchandise takes priority. Every area was modelled to ensure light levels were even across both floors, with spot and flood optics combined to give depth on vertical surfaces and consistent illumination on product displays.

The scheme uses a mix of Poplar track spotlights and Acorn recessed downlights, with beam angles and outputs selected to suit GAP’s varied retail layouts. Black fittings were used on the ground floor to tie into the darker ceiling plane, while white fixtures were specified upstairs for a cleaner, open feel. Mallard recessed self-test emergency luminaires were integrated across both floors to support safety compliance without disrupting the visual presentation.

Feature lighting plays a key role in the store identity. DMX-controlled RGB linear units were installed in the window reveals and skylight recesses, creating programmable colour washes that enhance the exterior presence after dark without affecting product visibility. The window displays also use surface-mounted spotlights, while an orange neon LED strip brings visual warmth to the store’s feature fireplace installation.

All architectural lighting operates through Casambi wireless controls, giving the retailer simple access to scene setting, commissioning adjustments and future layout changes.

The result is a flexible, modern lighting scheme that supports GAP’s refreshed store identity while delivering strong uniformity, reliable product presentation and energy-efficient operation.
